No more Pizza Pasta in Maho? Well, it is starting to look that way. I recently met with my friend Selena Figarolo, the owner of Pizza Pasta Trattoria Italiano, a veritable institution in the Maho area for over 25 years. We met for this interview at a popular venue in Cole Bay called Lagoonies during their Happy Hour, but I'll get to that in a seperate blog. First off everyone will be happy to know that Selena and her lovely family are all well after Hurricanes Irma and Maria, but as you can see on a drive through Maho, the restaurant, like the surrounding area was heavily damaged.

Selena and her beautiful son, now split their time between St. Maarten and St. Kitts, the latter being where her parents live and have their restaurant. Looking quite chic, in her stylish asymmetrical top and modern bob haircut, she explained that she was very ambivalent about the huge investment she would have to make to repair the restaurant, and was very disappointed in the management of the area even before the devastation. You may have noticed that the older areas of the Maho promenade were in severe disrepair long before Irma came along. That problem, along with rumors of yet another Italian restaurant planned for the area has left her with a bad taste in her mouth after all these years. So, as of now, there are no plans to reopen Pizza Pasta Trattoria Italiano anytime in the near future. You can still see the delicious menu right here on Eat St. Maarten and reminisce about the delectable Ricotta & Spinach Ravioli in Rose sauce, the unctuous Gnocchi in Cream sauce and the spicy Steak Pizzaiola with spaghetti and tomato sauce and all the rest of the delicious homestyle italian dishes that we knew and loved. Want to send some love? You can still contact Selena via her Facebook page, the link is below. If you happen to be in St. Kitts, head over to Ciao Italian restaurant in Frigate bay, just a few blocks away from the Marriott hotel. They offer a great selection of fresh homemade pasta, lots of dishes with fresh lobster and scrumptious homemade italian desserts.
